Space Browser

Once logged in, users are presented with the Space Browser, which is the main menu inside MaxWhere. Here, you can browse spaces by clicking on All Spaces, or see a list of the spaces you have downloaded, by clicking on My Spaces (at first, this list will be empty).

The All Spaces and My Spaces view presents a different categorization of the MaxWhere spaces available to you. Besides the main categories (Education, Exhibitions, Enterprise, Events), you will also find a separate view of your “favourite” and “last opened” spaces, as well as the spaces to which you have owner, editor or at the very least viewer privileges.

Note that the Space Browser in the MaxWhere Desktop Client is basically the same as the Space Browser that is available on the MaxWhere Portal. The minor differences that exist between the two are summarized here.

All Spaces view

In the All Spaces view, users are presented with the following categorization of spaces:

  • Own spaces: spaces w.r.t which the user has owner privileges
  • Demo spaces: spaces that were desigated as demonstration spaces by the MaxWhere team
  • Categories: Education, Exhibitions, Enterprise and Events

At the top left corner of this view, users can click on the "Create my own space" tile, which navigates to the space creation page on the MaxWhere Portal. Here, a pre-defined set of so-called Demo Spaces can be cloned such that the user will then become the owner of the new space (therefore, the title, description, thumbnail and sharing options of the space, as well as the projects inside the space can be specified by the user).

My Spaces view

In the My Spaces view, users are presented with a categorization of spaces similar to the ones in the All Spaces view. However, in the lower half of this page, spaces are categorized not by the main categories (i.e., Education, Exhibitions, Enterprise and Events), but in terms of the "Downloaded Spaces" category, as well in terms of the user's privileges (i.e., spaces owned by the user, spaces for which the user has editor privileges, and spaces for which the user has viewer privileges).

The search bar that appears in the top-right corner of the Space Browser enables users to search for the name of a specific space using fuzzy search (this means that minor typos do not make a difference). The results of the search will appear in a separate view that shows the space cards belonging to all spaces that match the search query.

Space cards

Each space card in the Space Browser represents a specific space, and is primarily used to download, update and open the given space. In specific cases, it also provides an interface for accessing further details, as well as the settings page for the given space on the MaxWhere Portal.

Space card

To download a space that hasn't yet been downloaded, click on the Download button in the lower-right corner of the space card.

To open a space that has already been downloaded, click on the Open button in the lower-right corner of the space card.

In case updates are available for a space, a refresh icon will be visible on the Open button. When opening the space, you will be given the option to either update the space, or open the space in its currently downloaded form.

Click on the red heart icon to mark or unmark the space as one of your favourites.

With the appropriate privileges, you will see a Settings button to the left of the Download / Open button. Clicking this will take you to the settings page for the given space on the MaxWhere Portal.

Finally, by clicking on the expand icon in the top-right corner of the space card, an expanded space card will open, which will display further UI elements for removing the space from the device, and for obtaining a link to the space which can be used to share the space with others. Note that the link will work only for users who are logged in and have the necessary credentials for accessing the given space (such credentials can be granted and revoked via the settings page by the owner and administrators of the space).
