System overview

MaxWhere is an extensible software framework for operating interactive virtual spaces. MaxWhere's spaces can be accessed through MaxWhere Desktop or through MaxWhere Web; and, to a large extent, can also be managed through the MaxWhere Portal

As a complex software package, MaxWhere includes the following capabilities and services:

Core functions

  • Visualization of interactive virtual 3D spaces with real-time 3D rendering technology
  • Free navigation in virtual 3D spaces
  • Display of 2D content in the virtual 3D spaces
  • Use of interactive web applications on interfaces embedded in the 3D virtual spaces

Supported file formats:

  • Image: png, jpg, gif, bmp, svg
  • Audio: WebM, Ogg, MP4 H.264 (AAC or MP3), MP3, WAVE PCM
  • Video: avi, mov, mp4, m4v, mkv, ogv
  • Web: HTML, CSS
  • Documents: PDF

MaxWhere content management offers:

  • Cloud storage of virtual spaces together with access privileges
  • Storage of virtual spaces on users' computers
  • Within-space content is downloaded to the user's computer from MaxWhere's cloud service
  • Fine-grained access control w.r.t. both the spaces and the content within the spaces

MaxWhere’s features for extensibility and customization include:

  • A programming interface for creating unique component-based functionalities integrated into individual spaces
  • Detailed event-based API to create custom interactions
  • Opportunity for integration of said components into modern (networked, distributed) IT environments using industry best practices

Supported operating systems
